If you want promotions you have to take your development into your own hands and strive for those goals.

You can't just show up to your shift and do the bare minimum and expect to be a GM one day. But if you want more reward from your job, you're going to have to put in more work. If you're looking for a career track, Coffee Bean is huge on internal promotions. If you're looking for something steady you can probably find a decent ~25 hour a week job. If you're looking for something flexible to work with your acting career, you can make it work. Here's the thing about this job, you get out of it what you want. There are Mystery Shoppers every couple of weeks and if you fail your shop more than twice (which is very easy with the ridiculous amount of different questions and points you have to hit throughout every interaction, and nearly impossible during a rush), you will have to go to a two hour "smile school" that someone actually believes will help make sure you do better in your customer serv. It's understandable that we should be expected to provide friendly, pleasant customer service, but CBTL really pushes their workers almost too far with ridiculous guidelines that we are expected to go through with every customer. And the duties only get harder and more stressful from there-as a shift supervisor you'll be ordering and doing inventory and keeping your workers in check and that can be the most stressful part of this job.Īrguably also one of the most stressful aspects of this job is the customer service expectations, called Po'okela.

You're constantly cleaning things you didn't even know existed or could be taken apart. It's very fun being a barista and nothing beats the feeling of successfully pushing through a rush especially if you're on bar alone.ĭon't be fooled, though, there are way more duties than meets the eye.

Some people definitely take themselves too seriously when its not their place to take on the role, but this is due to a lack of support and good management and communication from higher up. This is a great first job for any teen or twenty something.
